Whither Australian Universities

 Description

Issues to be discussed include: what is a university? higher education as a public good (funded as part of Nation building) compared with private good (user pays), regulation and deregulation, collegiality compared with managerialism, diversity within the Australian University system, measuring research performance and academic paths of men and women. After identifying threats currently facing universities in Australia and overseas, we shall make predictions about the Australian university system in the future. Class size: minimum of 12.
